Texas State Flag

As everyone knows I was not able to get Charlie into school this year for several different reasons. So I have been on a mission to teach him at home.

This is both fun and frustrating at times. I would love to know that I am on the right track with the things I am teaching him, but I also would like to know we can have fun and not bore him to death.

You see he will not even be 5 until December and so this week David and I have been looking for new things to use in Homeschooling and I have started to work with him on things that relate to Texas.

One of the items I would like to get him is a flag as I would like to teach him the Pledge of Allegiance and the meaning of the flag.

To do this though I knew I would have to google sites I could use so I did. I found this one that talks about the Texas state Flag.

For me this was interesting as it allowed me to learn things I did not know and I was able to tell Charlie that I did not know the items we were learning and to show him that parents can learn as well as children.  For example I learned that the red, white, and blue colors used for the flag respectively represent bravery, purity, and loyalty.  Leslie shared with Charlie that the flag is never to touch the ground, as she is in ROTC, she also showed him the correct way to fold the flag.

This was nice because when we went over to David's mom and dads tonight Charlie was telling his sister about some of the things we were learning including the fact that the Lone Star flag was officially adopted in 1839. I showed her the site and even though she is a senior in high school she did not know either.

So I guess I am not doing as bad as I thought I was teaching Charlie.
